Mayor Carter Declares February 6th, 2020 Optimist Day Across St. Paul
The Optimist Club of St. Paul MN will be participating in Optimist International’s Optimist Day on February 6th, 2020.
Members of Optimist International will celebrate Optimist Day throughout the world the first Thursday of every February to promote their efforts in helping and recognizing the people that make a difference in their communities.
On Optimist Day, Optimists are asked to wear Optimist attire (shirts, pins, hats, etc.). Mayor Melvin Carter has declared this day Optimist Day in a Proclamation across the city of St. Paul.
“Our Optimist Club’s number one priority is helping the children of this community. Optimist Day will be awareness to our community about our Club and our mission,” Club President Stephen Severance said. said. “With Optimist Day, we hope to be able to get more people involved and bring more projects to the children of the community who need it most.”
The Optimist Club of St. Paul has been supporting local youth since 1924. Through its’ Friend of Youth Foundation, the St. Paul Optimist Club has contributed over $400,00 in scholarships to local students. Programs and service projects that the Club is involved in include:
- Youth Appreciation Recognition Banquet
- Jeremiah Program
- Quarterly Youth Events with SafeZone, a Face to Face organization
- Oratorical & Essay Contest
- Junior Golf
- Bookmark drive at Grand Old Day Parade
